Transforming uncertainty into actionable insight and partnership strategy: customer discovery/listening to needs - 2021
Role: Co‑founder and Program & Operations Lead, 2017-2022
Context
To diversify revenue and align programs with real needs, UIF reached out to regional corporations (HR/culture, CSR/SDG) and NGO/civic leaders. The field was fragmented, with unclear demand signals.
Objective: convert uncertainty into actionable insight, surface partnership opportunities, and inform annual goals and program design for both sides (business/government and civic leaders).
Results
- Immediate: mapped 3 core challenge zones across corporate, NGO, and cross‑sector actors; produced clear program hypotheses (UIF as mentor, connector, and umbrella structure) and a draft partnership roadmap.
- Operational: established a replicable model for rapid qualitative mapping across fragmented networks used in subsequent quarters. Improved insight‑driven program design and partner targeting.
- Strategic: strengthened UIF’s role as a systems integrator, enabling longer‑term collaborations between business and civil society.
What I did
- Designed a structured interview framework covering corporate SDG/CSR programs, HR, volunteering, well‑being, L&D, and communication/brand management. Designed feedback loops for program adjustments (tied to strategic goals & KPIs).
- Built a shared process for interviewers (recording, note‑taking, insight extraction), ensured consistency in data collection and anonymization standards.
- Coordinated multi‑sector interviews and synthesized findings into a single insight map to spot patterns and partnership gaps.
- Translated insights into program choices: employee engagement, volunteering, and inter‑sector cooperation models that strengthen social connection and resilience.
Key learnings
- In crisis contexts, process design equals resilience. Having a simple but disciplined process (record → summarize → reflect) allows teams to act faster and learn together.
- Distributed qualitative ops (where nearly every team member interviews and synthesizes) creates ownership and alignment across the organization.
- The intersection between corporate HR/CSR/SDG and civil society is fertile ground for long-term systems collaboration - if guided by a connector organization.
